How Often Should You Update Your Telegram Bot?

Maintenance, upgrades, and feature releases — what's a healthy cadence for keeping your bot fresh without breaking it weekly?

"Set it and forget it" almost never works. But neither does "ship something every week." Here's the right rhythm for most businesses.

Three update categories

Security & infrastructure

Apply immediately. Telegram API changes, library security advisories, dependency vulnerabilities. If you use a hosted platform, this is invisible to you.

Bug fixes

Within 1-2 weeks of discovery. Faster for high-impact issues like broken payments or message loops.

New features and content

Monthly cadence is healthy for most. Weekly only if you have dedicated bot time.

Content refreshes

  • FAQ — review monthly; outdated answers erode trust.
  • Pricing replies — update the moment your pricing changes.
  • Seasonal content — refresh quarterly.
  • Auto-replies / AI knowledge base — update when product changes.

How to update without breaking things

  1. Have a staging bot — same workflows, different token.
  2. Test changes on staging before pushing to production.
  3. Roll out big changes to a subset of users first.
  4. Keep change logs — when, what, why.
  5. Have a rollback plan.

Signs you're updating too rarely

  • Customers ask questions your FAQ should already answer.
  • Your AI knowledge base predates your last product launch.
  • Workflows reference deprecated features.

Signs you're updating too often

  • Things break weekly.
  • Your team can't keep up with what changed.
  • Users complain that "the menu changed again."
Bots are products, not projects. They're never "done" — but they shouldn't change every other Tuesday either.
