How to Test Your Telegram Bot Before Launch
A pre-launch QA checklist that'll save you from the embarrassment of a half-broken bot meeting real customers.
Bugs in a bot reach customers immediately and visibly. A solid pre-launch test pass is the single highest ROI hour you'll spend.
The 6-layer test pass
1. Happy-path flows
Walk through every workflow from start to finish, in the order a normal user would. Confirm each step does what you expect.
2. Unhappy paths
Type "asdfasdf". Send a photo when it expects text. Tap a button twice. Send "/start" mid-flow. Each one should fail gracefully.
3. Permissions
Add the bot to a private channel, a group, a chat where it's admin, and a chat where it's not. Confirm behavior matches your intent.
4. Multiple device types
Test on iPhone, Android, desktop, and web. Inline keyboards render differently; voice playback varies wildly.
5. Performance
Send 50 messages back-to-back. Does the bot stay responsive? Are rate limits handled? Are queues flushing?
6. Security
Try injecting code, prompt-injection text, or oversized payloads. The bot should treat all input as untrusted.
Tools that help
- A second Telegram account — test as a "real" user, not as the admin.
- A test bot — clone of production with the same workflows but a different token.
- Logging — every bot action should be inspectable post-hoc.
Soft launch checklist
- Internal team only (1 week).
- Friendly users (10-50 people).
- Beta cohort (segment of mailing list).
- Public launch.
The teams who launch flawless bots aren't lucky — they spent 5x longer testing than building.
