How to Track Analytics From Your Telegram Bot

The metrics that matter, the ones to ignore, and the dashboards that reveal whether your bot is actually moving the needle.

You can't improve what you don't measure. But for bots, half the popular metrics are vanity. Here's what actually matters.

Tier 1: must-track

  • Active users (DAU / WAU / MAU) — is the bot growing or dying?
  • Messages per user — depth of engagement.
  • Workflow completion rate — what % finish what they start?
  • Conversion events — purchases, sign-ups, bookings.
  • Time-to-first-response — should be under 2 seconds.

Tier 2: nice-to-track

  • Drop-off points in long workflows.
  • Message types (text, photo, voice).
  • Most-triggered commands.
  • Geo + language distribution.
  • Error and timeout rates.

Tier 3: vanity (mostly ignore)

  • Total followers.
  • Lifetime message count.
  • Bot uptime (if you're hosted, it's already 99.9%+).

Tools to use

  • Built-in dashboards — most platforms have basic analytics.
  • PostHog or Mixpanel — for funnels and cohort analysis.
  • Google Analytics — by sending pageview-like events from your bot.
  • Custom DB queries — when standard tools can't answer your question.

The dashboard you actually need

One screen with three numbers: today's DAU, today's conversions, and the trend over the last 30 days. Everything else is for monthly review, not daily worry.

The teams that win iterate weekly on one specific number. Pick yours, watch it like a hawk, ignore the rest.
